Worth Valley Young Farmers are a lively club; believing it is the taking part that counts, not just winning. We are very successful at stock-judging and currently hold the Craven District Rally Cup amongst many other awards. Our club encourages all our members to participate in a variety of activities; our members will try their very best no matter what their ability.
We make sure that our junior members are given every opportunity to practice, develop and hone their judging skills even if they have never judged anything before, giving them the chance to learn and pickup "judging tips-and-tricks" from our veteran members.
All our members improve their skills and understanding through "hands-on practice" and become proficient farm animal judges; hopefully many will represent the club in competitions, etc. Animals that we typically judge include as follows: Dairy Cattle, Poultry, Beef Cattle, Breeding Sheep, Butchers Lambs, Ponies and Pigs. Several Worth Valley members also featured competing on live Television for the "BBC Test the Nation" quiz.
Worth Valley Young Farmers also do a lot more than just judging animals; sporting activities, public speaking, cooking, handicraft, amateur dramatics, tractor handling, machinery handling and Land-Rover rallying are just but a few of the many activities in which we participate.
Every year we hold a club mini rally where we encourage all our club members to try their hands at general handicraft and cooking. Using these skills helps to develop a sense of achievement and lets members display their proficiency in much more than just farming related skills.
Also members participate in sports for instance: running, football, rugby, hockey, swimming, netball, volleyball, cricket, aerobics, rounders and tug-of-war. Generally we do very well at club level and have won various prizes throughout the years.
