Please note: this website and page is under development at the moment; but in time will focus upon the Web based technologies used by this site to make it more accessible to a wider range of both users and web browsers, whether they are visual-browsers or voice enabled user agents.
"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."
— [Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web]
Worth Valley Young Farmers take pride in their activities and understand Web Content Accessibility is an important issue and plays an important part in website design.
For example; the first time an acronym or abbreviation appears within the main content it will be in expanded form; having an accompanying text description of what the term means.
Therefore the site's webmaster is currently looking into web accessibility techniques and planning to carryout research into application of Aural Cascading Style Sheets (ACSS) based technologies for this website.
Our Webmaster whom is dyslexic himself is also very active in the Web Accessibility movement; having persuaded various organisations to improve the accessibility of their websites. As we care about people within our club we treat our members that need additional support as equals and try to get them involved in all our activities and help expand their horizons.
The design and layout of this site is handled through Cascading Style Sheets for visual layout, separating structure from presentation to give the user more control of how they view the webpage. Browsers that don't support style sheets can receive the same content without the design in a readable format.
All the pages on this site use structured semantic Valid
XHTML markup ensuring the page has a logical
structure and meaning. For example the main headings use
h1
elements, and h2
elements are
used for subtitles to allow the page to be more easily
understood by assistive browsing devices, alternative
browsers or when styles sheets are not applied.
This page lists the Access Keys used throughout the Worth Valley Young Farmers' Club website. Access keys are intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse or who prefer to use keyboard shortcuts.
On the Windows Operating System; depending upon your browser, to activate an access key generally you can hold down the ALT key and press the appropriate access key letter or number. On the Apple Macintosh, you can hold down CTRL and select the access key. Opera users may hold down the SHIFT and ESC key and press the appropriate access key number.
